Matthew Hurd
Director

Matthew Hurd founded Energy & Design in 2008 and serves as Director, leading the company’s strategic direction and overseeing all projects.
With a background in Architectural Technology, Matthew now specialises in energy and sustainability, bringing a detailed understanding of both design and performance.
He is a Passive House Designer, qualified-On Construction Domestic Energy Assessor (OCDEA), BRE ACD Section 6 certified designer, BREEAM UK New Construction: Residential Assessor, and Elmhurst Air Tester. -
Kerry McEvoy
Office Manager

Kerry has been with Energy & Design since 2013, progressing from supporting EPCs to managing multiple departments and serving as PA to Director Matthew Hurd. She oversees EPCs, SAPs, photography, office operations, invoicing, HR tasks, and recruitment support, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Kerry has completed her CMI qualification in Management and Leadership, further enhancing her leadership and contribution to the company’s success. -
Angela Fowler
Office Supervisor

Angela has been with Energy & Design since 2021 and plays a central role in the company. As Office Supervisor, she manages daily office operations, streamlines administrative processes, and provides technical support and guidance to the SAP team.
She assists with SAP calculations and PV system modelling, ensuring accurate energy performance ratings, compliance with building regulations, and the delivery of high-quality, energy-efficient projects. -
Will Howarth
Head of Overheating

Will has been with Energy & Design since 2018 and was appointed Head of Overheating in 2023.
He is known for his technical expertise and meticulous approach, ensuring every assessment complies with regulatory standards and best practice.
Will has recently graduated with a First-Class Honours degree in Architectural Technology, further strengthening his specialist knowledge and reinforcing his commitment to excellence in building performance. -
William Harrison-Hurd
Overheating Supervisor

William has been with Energy & Design since 2017, taking on his role as Overheating Supervisor in 2023. He specialises in Part O assessments, compliance reporting, and energy optimisation for new residential buildings.
He also supports the team with Air Tightness Testing, SAP assessments, and EPC certifications. His technical expertise and attention to detail strengthen Energy & Design’s commitment to sustainable, compliant projects. -
Miles Crutchley
Overheating Assessor

Miles has been with Energy & Design since 2023, working as an Overheating Assessor. He carries out detailed overheating assessments, ensuring that buildings meet essential comfort standards and fully comply with Part O of the Building Regulations.
Alongside his technical work, Miles is currently pursuing a degree in Interior Design, which allows him to bring a creative and design-focused perspective to his assessments. -
Lewis Jones
Trainee Overheating Assessor

Lewis has been with Energy & Design since 2023 as a Trainee Overheating Assessor. He supports the team in conducting assessments to ensure buildings comply with Part O of the Building Regulations.
Valued for his strong work ethic, positive attitude, and collaborative approach, he consistently contributes to a supportive and enjoyable office environment, helping the team meet project goals while developing his professional skills. -
Sue Bethell
Compliance Co-ordinator

Sue joined Energy & Design in 2023 and quickly became a central and highly valued part of the team. She manages day-to-day office administration, assists with EPCs, and keeps projects running smoothly and on track.
Beyond her organisational skills and attention to detail, Sue is a lovely addition to the office, always friendly, approachable, and a pleasure to work with. -
Rachael Walsh Dixon
Part L Photographic Evidence Assessor

Rachael has been part of Energy & Design since 2023, specialising in managing Part L site photography to support building regulation compliance. She plays a vital role in ensuring all documentation is thorough, accurate, and fully aligned with compliance requirements. Rachael’s attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and commitment to precision help maintain the company’s trusted reputation for delivering consistent quality and reliability.

Loretta Ferrans
Energy Assessor

Loretta has been with Energy & Design since 2017 and is an experienced and valued team member, specialising in assisting with SAP assessments and providing essential support to ensure compliance with energy efficiency standards.
Holding an HNC in Construction and the Built Environment, she has become a reliable resource for both the team and clients and is a highly valued member of Energy & Design. -
Joe Pratt
Energy Assessor

Joe joined Energy & Design in 2025 and has three years of experience in the energy industry. He holds OCDEA and NDEA certifications and is proficient in Design SAP 10 & 12 and iSBEM.
Joe assists with SAPs, bringing enthusiasm, energy, and attention to detail to the team. He supports compliance and sustainability initiatives, quickly integrating into workflows and contributing to project success. -
Dave McEvoy
Air Tester

Dave has been with Energy & Design since 2015 as an Elmhurst Air Tester, specialising in air tightness testing to ensure accurate measurements of airflow and compliance with Building Regulations.
His expertise helps optimise energy efficiency and occupant comfort for both domestic and non-domestic new builds. Valued for his technical knowledge and attention to detail, Dave is essential to projects where precision is critical. -
Rhiannon Price
Administration Assistant

Rhiannon has been with Energy & Design since the start of 2025, playing a vital role as our Administration Assistant and ensuring office operations run efficiently every day. She manages schedules, coordinates communications, and assists with EPC preparation.
Her organisational skills, reliability, and proactive approach contribute to the smooth running of every project. We are very proud to have her working with us. -
